Single-player and multiplayer Achievements are completely separate with no real benefit to players. The perfect stormĪt least these pointless animations can be disabled.īattleship’s Achievements combine with its other faults to become a ship-killing iceberg. Unfortunately those requests don’t disappear after accepting them, so my Requests page is now a wall of useless Battleship notifications. If you’re outside of the game, you may see a Push notification or ‘Your Turn’ notification in the Requests section of the Xbox Live hub. No option to disable music but not sound effects, sadly. During this time, the game’s boisterous music absolutely blares, so I had to turn it off before long. Once the other side finally makes his move, as long as you’re still in the game a pop-up message will ask whether or not you’d like to see the move and begin your own turn. Frankly, no true multiplayer game like this should be released without a way to communicate with other players. If you’ve just made a move and you’re waiting for your opponent to do the same, you have little option but to twiddle your thumbs. Lack of an in-game chat or messaging system greatly reduces the social element that all multiplayer games should have. The actual experience of playing against an online friend is held back by several problems as well. To challenge a friend in a new game, you can type out his or her email address or Gamertag or select a Gamertag from your Friends list by tapping a tiny and easily missable plus symbol on the corner of the screen. There is absolutely no matchmaking, so you can only play against people you know. Once you get the Xbox Live option to work, starting a game is a bit of a hassle. Defensive weapons are passive and include a shield that gives every ship a free hit and a sixth decoy ship. They all have unique blast radiuses, such as firing five shots in an ‘X’ pattern or filling an entire vertical column with shots until one hits a ship. Offensive weapons take multiple turns to charge up and become ready, and one in particular can only be used once per game. Both sides get only one shot per turn, but now they can choose up to three Super weapons at the start of the game. Super weapon: The most unique game type and only possible in videogame form. You could actually play the real board game with Salvo rules I certainly would if I owned it. Losing your ships adds some welcome tension since it diminishes your firepower on top of bringing the game closer to its end. As a result, the game starts out much faster and gradually slows down as ships vanish beneath the waves. Salvo: This type works much the same as Classic, except each side gets up to five shots per turn: one for every remaining ship on that side.Once you’ve nabbed the Classic mode Achievements, I doubt you’ll return to it. Since you get just one shot per turn, it usually takes too long to find the opponent’s ships – especially the smallest ship. While some of us probably have fond childhood memories of Battleship, Classic is actually quite boring. This version features three game types, each varying in complexity: Hopefully everyone knows how to play Battleship by now – if not, check Wikipedia for a primer.

And the 10mm is rather short on eye relief, requiring you to jam your eye into it to take in the whole field. These eyepieces have metal barrels and glass optics and provide fairly sharp views, though the apparent field of each is only about 50 degrees. The Polaris 130mm EQ comes with two 1.25” Kellner eyepieces: a 20mm providing 33x and a 10mm providing 65x. The rings are bolted directly to the equatorial mount head with no other interface in between, unlike most scopes in this price range, which use a universal Vixen-style dovetail bar and saddle to attach interchangeably to mounts. The Polaris 130MM EQ attaches to its mount via a pair of tube rings, which allow you to rotate the tube and slide it back and forth for balance. There is also a fair amount of shift when you focus the telescope, displacing your target from the center of the field of view and exacerbating the problems of the Polaris 130mm EQ’s less-than-stable mount/tripod. It is unusually tall, owing to its origins as being designed for a refractor, and suffers from a huge amount of backlash and sloppiness, making focusing at higher magnifications difficult. This is not the focuser typically supplied with cheap reflectors but rather a very low quality one taken from a 60mm or 70mm “department store” refractor with an adapter fitted on. The focuser on the Polaris 130mm EQ is a 1.25” rack-and-pinion unit made entirely out of plastic. A collimation tool is not provided with the Polaris 130mm EQ, but you can easily make one yourself. The secondary mirror can be adjusted with a hex key, which is standard for most telescopes. Unfortunately, you need a screwdriver to collimate the Polaris 130mm EQ, and the screws for collimating the primary mirror are hidden behind a cover that you have to pry off the back of the telescope. An f/5 telescope performs acceptably with most 1.25” eyepieces, though the edge of the field of view can have some aberrations like astigmatism, particularly with cheap oculars like the ones supplied.Īt f/5, collimation (alignment of the primary and secondary mirror optics) is fairly critical for good performance. The Sky-Watcher Heritage 130P, Zhumell Z130, and Gskyer 130mm EQ all feature proven parabolic optics with the same specs as the Polaris 130mm EQ, and are vastly superior telescopes as a whole. The optics in these telescopes at least seem to be parabolic, though there is the concern of shoddy spherical mirrors (which cannot provide a sharp image at high magnification) being swapped in, as is, unfortunately, the case with the Celestron AstroMaster 130EQ. The Solomark Polaris 130mm EQ is a 130mm (5.1”) f/5 Newtonian reflector with a focal length of 650mm. Don’t worry, we’ve adequately examined and tested this telescope for you. If you must have a 130mm equatorial reflector, we’d recommend the Gskyer 130mm EQ or Orion SpaceProbe 130ST instead – or even better, a tabletop Dobsonian like the Sky-Watcher Heritage 130P or the larger Heritage 150P.Īs with many less-than-good beginner telescopes, reviews on Amazon of the Solomark Polaris 130mm EQ are biased, as many people are just happy to get a semi-acceptable view of the Moon or Jupiter at low magnifications with this telescope and give it a 5-star rating – and there are of course fake reviews and shills, too. The Polaris 130mm EQ is also easily more expensive than a good 114mm or 130mm tabletop Dobsonian telescope which will provide much better images. The optics may be acceptable and the telescope certainly works okay, but its overall design and included accessories are less than acceptable, let alone at the price it commands, which rivals that of a 6” Dobsonian. The Solomark Polaris 130mm EQ at first glance doesn’t seem that bad, but it’s in many ways flawed in the same manner as the Celestron AstroMaster 130EQ. Now, to make the milestones easier to follow, you can use drag & drop to slightly narrow the arrow shape and move the circles closer to their corresponding descriptions. For instance, you can use Shape Fill to make specific milestones stand out or change the dates’ Font Color to differentiate them better from the milestone descriptions. To do this quickly, right-click on any item and use the formatting options that pop up to restyle it. While the SmartArt functions apply to the whole graphic, you can also customize individual items to make a more unique PowerPoint timeline. In our example, we chose a darker color scheme from the Change Colors dropdown and selected the Intense Effect option from the Styles menu to make the milestone circles stand out a bit better. To customize the overall look of your timeline, you can change the SmartArt Styles and color palettes from the SmartArt Design tab on the ribbon. Now you can apply some styling choices if you want to make your PowerPoint timeline look more unique. Instead, you can expand the size of the graphic box as we did above, and PowerPoint will automatically make the milestone descriptions larger too. We would suggest avoiding that because it tends to ruin the whole layout. When building your PowerPoint timeline, you may be tempted to manually increase the size of the text for improved legibility. To ensure your data remains easy to read, it would be safe to keep a maximum of 5 to 7 milestones. You’ll notice that PowerPoint automatically shrinks the text size the more events you add to your timeline. To add more milestones to your PowerPoint timeline, simply press Enter after an existing item in the Text Pane and insert your data. That’s why we’d recommend leaving them as they are. You can manually drag milestones closer to or farther away from each other, but as you add more items on the timeline, the layout will get distorted. This is because the tool “reads” the dates you enter as plain text, so it can’t calculate the number of days between two milestones. Note: You’ll notice that PowerPoint places your milestones equidistant on the timeline, regardless of the relative distance between their dates. Press Shift + Enter to insert a line break and show the date and description of a milestone one below the other. Here, type in your milestone dates and descriptions, and PowerPoint will automatically update the graphic. If the Text Pane is not already visible, click on the small icon right on the left of your timeline arrow to open it. That’s why we’d recommend using the Text Pane instead, as it’s faster and it allows you to easily add extra milestones to your PowerPoint timeline. You can insert your own data directly on the graphic by typing inside the boxes on the slide, but adding new milestones or events besides the 3 default ones can become a little tricky this way. The default graphic generated by PowerPoint will have placeholder text and only 3 milestones. You can change the style at any time from the SmartArt Tools Design tab on the ribbon if you want to try out different layouts for your graphic. For a simple graphic that clearly shows the key events or milestones of a project, we’d recommend choosing the Basic Timeline. In the window that pops up, select the Process category, where you will find a variety of graphic options to choose from for your PowerPoint timeline. Go to the Insert tab on the PowerPoint ribbon and click on the SmartArt button in the Illustrations section. Here are the exact steps:Ĭreate a new presentation or open an existing one and add a new blank slide.
